How to Create a Media Ruckus

4/23/09 - We have been playing this video a lot recently to show prospective clients our experience at creating significant media buzz. So, I wanted to share it here as well. Two years ago, working with our client Personalized Power Systems, we created a significant media ruckus regarding Florida's failure to enforce a law requiring gas stations to have generators. We pitched the story to a number of outlets, and it really took off after local CBS reporter Al Sunshine jumped in. The video tells the story and has really helped our firm showcase our abilities to prospects. It's three minutes long and includes a bunch of video clips. Take a look.

Doug Blackmon Wins Pulitzer

4/20/09 Rarely does news give me chills, but today I learned that my friend Doug Blackmon won a Pulitzer Prize for his book Slavery By Another Name.

Doug is the Atlanta Bureau Chief for The Wall Street Journal. I have known him for more than 10 years since he wrote a page one story about a then-significantly sized Ponzi scheme. My client was the hero. Since then, he has shot down more of my story ideas than I can count, but we have become friends.

I can proudly tell you that I bought the first copy of Slavery By Another Name on pre-order on Amazon.com, nearly a year before it was published.

I'm so proud of Doug for many reasons, including the fact that his book took more than seven years to write and was an incredible labor of love for him. Link to story on the win: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124025539983336083.html

In the story titled "In This Economy, Everything's (Re)Negotiable," FRSTeam's Courtney Nicholas explained how she was able to lower the rent on several of the company's stores just by being smart enough to ask. Her efforts added thousands to the monthly bottom line and helped preserve jobs. Click to read more: http://www.entrepreneur.com/management/operations/article201002.html.
